The Journal of General Physiology 119 3 Cover picture:Voltage-dependent changes in the fluorescence of a probe attached near the voltage sensor of HERG potassium channel. The fluorescence change tracks the slow activation gating of the channel, both in its time course (top) and its voltage dependence (bottom). For the same probe attached at two neighboring positions, this slow signal is seen together with a more rapid response, which may directly drive voltage-dependent fast inactivation.
